Rural School Districts Lead Ohio in Giving Out Online Exams

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) – Nearly a quarter of Ohio’s rural school districts administered online state tests to all of their students, the largest rate among any category of districts.
Students were able to take state tests online for the first time last school year. The Columbus Dispatch reports a state survey found about 24 percent of rural districts administered all exams online. Statewide, only 17 percent of districts used online exams exclusively.
Some districts reported glitches with the online Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers, or PARCC exams. The company that created the exams fielded nearly 10,000 help requests from Ohio districts during the February testing window.
Lawmakers dropped the PARCC test after one year. Education officials are working on a new series of tests for next school year.
