Parkersburg South Faces Tough Test In Morgantown
< < Back to parkersburg-south-faces-tough-test-morgantownThe Parkersburg South Patriots are looking to rebound from their first loss of the season with a big game this weekend.
Last week, the Patriots fell to Linsly Academy, 33-14, but this week doesn’t get any easier, as Parkersburg South welcomes the Morgantown Mohigans who are currently ranked second in the state of West Virginia. A week ago, Morgantown put a 66-8 throttling on Calvin Coolidge (D.C.).
“We’ve got our work cut out for us,” coach Mike Eddy said. “(Morgantown) outmans us in virtually every position on paper, but we aren’t so much worried about that. We’re more concerned about us trying to get better and make improvements.”
In week two, Parkersburg South managed just 98 yards of total offense, and running back Brendan Schwendeman, who ran for over 400 yards in week one, gained just 25 yards on the night. It doesn’t get much easier for the Patriot offense either. In their first two games the Mohigans have only given up a combined 15 points. “We’ve got to find a way to get more guys involved,” Eddy said. “We really relied on Brendan (Schwendeman) and Cody (Smith) a lot, and we have to find a way to get more guys touches.”
However, Eddy said the team wasn’t ready to forget about last week’s loss.
“We want to break down everything,” he said. “We want to know why things happened the way that they happened. If you don’t learn from an experience then it was a waste of time.”
Last week the Patriots allowed two different 100-yard rushers, and this week their rush defense will once again be tested. Morgantown running back Chazzy Morris comes in having rushed for 465 yards and seven touchdowns through two games. Eddy said the Patriots missed too many tackles last week and that cant be the case again this week.
“It’s a growing process for everyone, but we have to do a better job all the way around, players, coaches, everyone,” Eddy said.
Parkersburg South will have to do a lot of growing up and quickly if it hopes to upset Morgantown Friday night at Erickson All-Sports Facility.
