Pioneers Dominating Digs And Blocks
< < Back to pioneers-dominating-digs-and-blocksThe National Statistical Rankings rated the Marietta College Pioneers volleyball team as No. 22 in blocks and No. 28 in digs out of more than 430 NCAA Division III teams in the nation.
Leading the team in blocks are sophomore middle blocker Chloe Janson with six solo and 41 assisted blocks accumulating to 47 blocks and a 1.12 block per set average, junior middle blocker Rachel Hackenberg chipping in two solo and 34 assisted blocks for a total of 36 and a .84 average, and sophomore right side hitter Keri Horton adding one solo and 30 assisted blocks for 31 blocks and a .79 average.
As for digs, the team is led by sophomore defensive specialist Mary Ervin with 213 digs and a 4.84 dig per set average. Assisting with this effort are senior defensive specialist Amber Wiley with 133 digs and a 3.02 average and, with near identical stats, sophomore outside hitter Kennedy Clyde has 131 digs and a 2.91 average.
Also receiving accolades are senior Paige DeVriendt who is currently ranked No. 113 in kills out of all other active Division III volleyball players and Clyde who also received Female Athlete of the Week from Marietta College.
The Pioneers are back on the court Saturday, Sept. 21, as they host of the Pioneer Classic. Marietta plays Washington and Lee University at 10 a.m. and Denison University 12:15 p.m.
