Artists From Ohio, Bordering States Featured In “OH+5”
< < Back to artists-ohio-bordering-states-featured-oh5The Dairy Barn Cultural Arts Center is presenting the biennial exhibition OH+5 Oct. 5 through Nov. 24 with an opening reception on Friday, Oct. 4.
The exhibit features work by artists living, working or studying in Ohio and its five bordering states. Jurors Sydnee Peters (Western Michigan University), Kathleen Ristinen (Athens, Ohio) and Michael Stadler (Indiana University of Pennsylvania) selected 90 pieces by 75 artists representing the region’s contemporary art.
A list of the OH+5 artists can be found on the Dairy Barn's website.
This year’s exhibition–the ninth in the series–will contain work in a large variety of media, including sculpture, installation, video, ceramics, glass, painting, photography, weavings, quilts, collage, drawing, artist books and more.
"The process of choosing the exhibition generated lively and engaging conversation between the jurors," said OH+5 juror Sydnee Peters. "Personally, I am drawn to work that in some way opens my imagination to contemplative insights, this can occur via idea and/or use of material. I found there was plenty of substance of this nature in the work submitted and it is my perception that OH+5 will be an interesting exhibition of fine quality works, no two similar yet each thoughtful in their distinct ways."
The Oct. 4 reception will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Gallery hours are Tuesday-Saturday 12 p.m. to 5 p.m., Community Thursdays open until 8 p.m., and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays.
The Dairy Barn Arts Center is located at 8000 Dairy Lane in Athens. Visit www.dairybarn.org for more information.
