Jackson Bounces Back After Loss In Dominant Fashion
After suffering their first regular season loss since 2013, the Jackson Ironmen came back with an attitude as they trumped Warren 41-0.
The game showed to be in Jackson’s favor even in the first possession after Warren fumbled in its own half of the field. Jackson showed its dominance after a few plays when Johnny Farley scored on a 29-yard run to put his Ironmen up 7-0. This would not be the last the Warriors hear from Farley.
After a three-and-out from the Warriors, Jackson went all the way down to its goal line. It was the one situation in the game the Warrior defense was in fight-or-flight-mode. The Warriors stopped the Ironmen on third down, and Jackson suited up for a field goal. As the ball was snapped, the Warrior defense put up a wall and Warren’s Robert Fish blocked the kick. The momentum, however, did not go over well.
Even though the Warriors suffered a 41-0 loss, this was the second least amount of points the Warrior defense has allowed this season, and with it coming from a SEOAL powerhouse, the effort looks better for them on paper.
In the second quarter, Farley did not let up on the Warriors, even when he scored a five-yard touchdown to put the Ironmen up 14-0. The Warriors offense could not do anything in return as they fumbled on the ensuing drive. Warren’s defense did, however, put up a good stand as Alex Mills intercepted Hunter Sexton following that drive. Mills ended up intercepting Sexton again later in the second half.
The second half started in some controversy. On his only kickoff return of the night, Farley picked up the ball with a foot in the endzone and returned it for a touchdown. Warren, thinking it was a touchback, did not pursue the play. The official, however, did not call the touchback, and Farley was able to take the ball all 100 yards to give the Ironmen a 21-0 lead early in the third. According to OHSAA, as long as the ball does not go past the goal line, it is a live ball.
The Jackson Ironmen would go on to score three more times in the fourth quarter, sealing the shutout.
Jackson will travel next week to face a tougher opponent in undefeated Logan. Warren will travel north to play Union Local.
Southern Rolls To Big Win In Stewart
Southern shut out Federal Hocking 48-0 on Friday night in Stewart.
The Lancers trailed just 7-0 late in the first half, but the Tornadoes scored two touchdowns in the final two minutes of the second quarter, including a 15-yard Dylan Smith touchdown reception as time expired.
Riley Roush led the Southern attack with three touchdowns, including a 75-yard kickoff return to open the second half.
Federal Hocking struggled to get anything going offensively. Quarterback A.J. Cobb was often running for his life in the Lancers’ backfield and was sacked four times in the loss.
Federal Hocking will look for its first win of the season when it hosts Waterford next week.
Southern hopes to get over .500 next Friday when it travels to Glouster to take on Trimble.
