School District Near Proposed Marijuana Growing Site Opposes Ballot Issue
< < Back toMONROE, Ohio (AP) – A southwest Ohio school district with a campus near a proposed marijuana growing site is opposing a state ballot issue that would legalize pot.
The Monroe Board of Education passed a resolution formally opposing the proposed amendment that would legalize recreational and medical marijuana.
The measure would create 10 indoor growing facilities. One of those includes a 40-acre site less than two miles from the district’s elementary, junior and senior high schools.
Board member Brett Guido says he hopes the resolution sends a strong message about the proximity of the growing sites to the schools.
Officials from the organization pushing the ballot issue say they want to make sure marijuana stay out of kids’ hands.
The district is about 30 miles north of Cincinnati.
