Wahama Stays The Course, Beats Fed Hock
< < Back to wahama-stays-course-beats-fed-hockWahama was missing a familiar face on the sideline Friday night, but there was nothing unfamiliar about the White Falcons on the field.
Interim head coach Dave Barr led Wahama to a 53-12 victory over Federal Hocking in his first game at the helm Friday. The White Falcons maintain their second place standing in the TVC-Hocking and leave the Lancers with a lot of ground to make up. Fed Hock remains fastened in the center of the conference standings.
Undoubtedly, the center of all talk in Bachtel Stadium was the sudden and shocking retirement of long-time head coach Ed Cromley. How would the team react in an important conference showdown without its coach of almost two decades on the sideline?
The focused White Falcons squad answered the question without hesitation.
Gridiron Glory Player of the Year candidate Kane Roush burst out of the gate for 47 yards on just the second play of the game to put Wahama on the board, 6-0.
Roush added to a monster of a night for the White Falcons’ offense with 153 rushing yards and four touchdowns. As a unit, the Wahama offense amassed an incredible 387 total rushing yards to dance away with the win in their homecoming game.
The Red and White defense left a packed crowd on the edges of their seats, as Colton Neal ran an interception back 24 yards for the second touchdown of the night. Wahama was off to a 12-0 start with a just under seven minutes to play in the first quarter.
The momentum continued in the first half for the resilient White Falcons.
Roush scored his second rushing touchdown of the night in the second quarter, and Neal’s two-point conversion brought the Wahama lead to 20-0.
Matters continued to get worse for the Lancers while the White Falcons dominated on the ground.
The recurring theme for the Fed Hock offense was its inability to convert on downs. The Lancers recorded just four first downs in the first half and gained a total of 194 yards on the night.
Fed Hock showed some fight late in the third quarter as Peyton Seal hauled in a 15-yard pass from Alfie Nichols to put the Lancers on the board. The White Falcons didn’t let the celebration last for long though. Garrett Miller returned the ensuing onside kick 45 yards for a touchdown.
Barr led an impressive Wahama effort Friday. The White Falcons proved they would not let the sudden retirement of Cromley shake up their strategy in the thick of conference play.
Wahama moves to 6-1 (5-1 TVC-Hocking), and Federal Hocking falls below .500. The Lancers now sit at 3-4 (2-3).
Wahama visits South Gallia (4-3, 3-3) Friday, Oct. 18. Federal Hocking hosts Miller (2-5, 0-5).
