Man faces five counts of child pornography
< < Back to man-faces-five-counts-child-pornographySeveral months of investigation led the Friday’s arrest of a British citizen by Circleville Police on five counts related to child pornography.
Daniel J. Akehurst, 45, is charged with three counts of possessing sexually oriented material involving a minor and two counts of sharing that material. He is currently being held in the Pickaway County Jail awaiting an initial hearing in his case.
Police executed a search warrant at his Lewis Road home about 6:05 a.m. Friday, where they recovered laptops and electronic devices containing the sexually oriented material.
The investigation, which began in August, was initiated through the Franklin County Crimes Against Children Internet Task Force, according to Chief Wayne Gray.
“There is no indication any local kids are involved,” Gray said. “They started looking at him back in August when there was the first indication there was some trouble. They confirmed it the first time in early September, then again in late September, and then again (Friday).”
Akehurst’s record in Circleville Municipal Court lists a DUI charge from January of this year.
“Because he is not a U.S. citizen and is here on a green card, immigration agents will have an opportunity to do what they need to do if he is convicted,” Gray said. “Because he is from out of the U.S., he will have the opportunity to call the British consulate and be represented or at least have his affairs looked at by consulate services.”
Gray said he was not certain how long Akehurst has resided in the U.S. but said it was “quite some time.”
