A northeast Ohio man found guilty in the death of a woman who was set on fire and found wailing on a road says the jury's decision was based on lies.

LaFonse Dixon Jr., of Canton, spoke Tuesday in court in Zanesville in the sentencing phase of his case. Dixon's family testified in support of his plea for leniency as jurors weigh whether to recommend a death sentence.

The 34-year-old Dixon was convicted of aggravated murder, kidnapping and aggravated arson.

Two women pleaded guilty in the case to avoid the death penalty. They testified that the trio took Celeste Fronsman, 29, to rural Muskingum County, where she was set on fire and abandoned in August 2012.

Dixon's attorneys argued he wasn't involved and said the women lied to save themselves.
