OU Must Pay $50,000 To Woman Hit By Bus
< < Back to ou-must-pay-50000-woman-hit-busA woman who was hit by a Campus Area Transit System bus in 2011 has reached a $50,000 settlement with the Ohio University after suing based on her injuries.
Samantha Ann Reidy of Cincinnati will receive the money as part of an agreement filed in the Ohio Court of Claims on last week.
Reidy sued the university for more than $25,000 after she was hit by a CATS bus in front of Baker Center. Reidy was making a campus visit when she was hit and suffered permanent injuries, according to previous reporting by The Messenger.
The bus was driven by Emily Keeley, whom the lawsuit claimed was negligent because she hit Reidy while the woman was in a crosswalk.
Keeley was cited for failure to yield to a pedestrian, signed a guilty waiver and paid $139 in Athens County Municipal Court.
In return for the settlement, Reidy agreed to drop all “claims, demands, right, causes of action, costs, loss of services, expenses and any and all other damages” on account of the incident, according to the settlement. The claim was dismissed with prejudice, meaning the claim could not be brought up again.
