After a painful first conference loss last weekend, the Bobcats were looking to right the ship this weekend on the road, at Miami. On Friday night, though, things did not go the Bobcats’ way as they were defeated by Miami in Millett Hall in Oxford, Ohio, 3-0 (25-18, 25-16, 25-22).

Miami had an early 5-3 lead in the third set, but then the Bobcats reeled off five-straight points to take an 8-5 lead and force the RedHawks to take a timeout.  A 5-2 run by Miami tied the match at 10-10, but the Bobcats countered with a 4-2 stretch to take a 14-12 lead, using kills by Jaime Kosiorek and Mallory Salis and a service ace by Katie Nelson.

The RedHawks and ‘Cats were going back and forth until Ohio tied it up at 22-22 on a service ace by Shelby Walker. That’s as close as the ‘Cats would get, as Miami took the next three points, the set by a score of 25-22 and the match with it.

In the first set Miami won the first point to take the lead, and then the ‘Hawks would never trail the entirety of the set, winning 25-18. Ohio seemed slow, and almost a little weak. All night hitters were finding blocks, and making errors which helped lead them to a .022 first set hitting percentage, and a .037 hitting percentage on the whole night.

Almost exactly like the first set Miami practically led throughout. Ohio took the first point, Miami took the second to tie it and then took the lead 2-1. After gaining that lead it never trailed or tied again as Miami took the second 25-16. Miami led 7-2, until a service error made it 7-3. But then the RedHawks returned a Kosiorek serve well to win the point eventually on a kill.

That sequence was a perfect example of the Bobcats night. Anytime it seemed as if the momentum might have been shifting, it didn’t and it went completely back to Miami. The ‘Cats just didn’t seem like themselves for the second match in a row.
