Irvine Hall Closed Until Saturday For Chemical Risk
< < Back to irvine-hall-closed-for-chemical-riskAn Ohio University building was closed Friday afternoon after “the potential for unsafe environmental conditions” was found.
Chemicals being stored in Irvine Hall were found to be in “deteriorating containers” at about 3 p.m., causing the building to be evacuated as a precaution, according to a release by the university.
“The situation is contained, and this is not a criminal incident,” an alert by the university stated.
The Athens and Logan Fire departments and the Hocking County Emergency Medical Service were called in to assist university crews.
“Fire personnel subsequently determined that there had been no chemical leakage and that Irvine Hall is safe,” the release stated.
Irvine Hall was fully operational by Saturday afternoon.
