Ohio Hockey Takes Rematch Against Iowa State

In a top 10 rematch, No. 10 Ohio hockey ran over No. 7 Iowa State with a 5-3 win Friday night. Power plays were the story of the game, as five of the eight goals were power-play goals.
Ohio led the entire game and had a 4-0 lead in the third period. The Bobcats scored three of their goals on Iowa State’s Matt Goedeke before he was replaced by Derek Moser after the second period. Two minutes into the third period, Ohio’s Matthew Hartman scored a power-play goal to get that 4-0 lead.
The Bobcats’ defense was strong, and goalie Aaron Alkema had a shutout until halfway through the third period. Iowa State knocked in two power-play goals of their own within one minute of each other.
With three minutes remaining in the game, Ohio’s Matt Rudin stopped the Cyclones’ momentum by punching in a goal to bring Ohio up 5-2. Iowa State’s Tony Uglem scored with less than one minute remaining, but the game had been decided at that point.
Ohio had to play without captain and leading scorer Michael Harris after he had been disqualified from the last game. Harris will be available for the next game.
“Our team is so deep even guys that don’t play in the lineup every night can go anywhere else and be tough on players,” senior forward Diego Breckenrideg said. “It’s just good for our team’s confidence that anyone can play on any given night and can put the team on their back.”
Ohio (17-3-1) will face Iowa State (17-2-4) again on Saturday. Saturday will also feature a special “Teddy Bear Toss” Teddy bears will be tossed on the ice after Ohio’s first goal. The bears will be donated to local charities.
