Blind Voters Suing Elections Chief

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) – Several blind voters and an advocacy group for the blind are suing Ohio’s elections chief over the accessibility of paper absentee ballots in the swing state.
The lawsuit claims blind and disabled voters are being denied equal opportunity to independently and privately vote absentee by mail, violating the Americans with Disabilities Act. Currently, another person must read and mark those ballots for them.
Three Ohio voters and the National Federation of the Blind filed the lawsuit Monday in Columbus federal court.
The plaintiffs also claim Secretary of State Jon Husted’s website doesn’t work with software that would provide better access the site.
Husted spokesman Josh Eck says the office has been working to improve its website, and any significant changes to the current voting system would need legislative approval.
