Ohio set to take on Cleveland State Saturday
< < Back to ohio-set-to-take-on-cleveland-state-saturdayOn Saturday the 4-3 Ohio Bobcats travel to Quicken Loans Arena to face the 2-6 Cleveland State Vikings.
Cleveland State is coached by Gary Waters, who is in his 10 season at Cleveland State and has a .573 winning percentage. The team is led by freshman, Rob Edwards and junior Demonte Flannigan. Flannigan puts up 10.8 points and five rebounds per contest while Edwards chips in 11.6 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.1 steels on average. Waters has a deep rotation, playing 12 guys in most of their games.
The Vikings’ 2-6 record is a bit deceiving, as Cleveland State has played a difficult schedule to this point. Ohio will be the fourth Mid-American Conference squad it has played on the year. The Vikings previously squared off with and fell to Akron, Kent State and Toledo.
The Bobcats are coming off a 13-point loss to St. Bonaventure last Saturday. Cleveland State will look to slow down Ohio point guard Jaaron Simmons in this one. Simmons averages 16.1 points per game and 7.9 assists per game. Ohio comes into the contest with an offense that is top-50 in the country in points per game with 82.1. The team has scored at least 80 points in five of its seven games so far this year.
Ohio and Cleveland State have a bit of history, but the Bobcats have not had much trouble with the Vikings in the past. Of the 13 times these two teams have matched up, Ohio has won 10 times. Ohio is also 44-13 all time against the Horizon league.
The Bobcats will look to continue that success tomorrow at The Q. Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
