Ohio AG Indicates Support for Fetal Tissue Disposal Changes
< < Back to ohio-ag-indicates-support-for-fetal-tissue-disposal-changesCOLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) – Ohio’s attorney general has indicated his support for legislation requiring abortion providers and hospitals to dispose of fetal remains by burial or cremation.
Attorney General Mike DeWine told reporters Tuesday he found such disposal methods acceptable.
Proposals to change Ohio’s fetal tissue disposal regulations come after DeWine’s investigation into Planned Parenthood facilities.
His office found no evidence that Planned Parenthood made money from aborted fetuses. The report instead criticized the organization for disposing of fetal remains in landfills.
Planned Parenthood calls the report “inflammatory.” The group says it follows Ohio law and uses the same practices as hospitals and other facilities, which generally contract with companies to dispose of medical waste.
DeWine declined to say whether Ohio’s health department should investigate other providers, saying state lawmakers should review the regulations.
