Ohio Outlasts Jackson State

It was not pretty, but the Ohio Bobcats got the 72-67 home win against the Jackson State Tigers on Thursday night.
Ohio was outrebounded on the offensive glass 20 to 10, and Jackson State had 18 more second chance points than the Bobcats. However, the Bobcats made 17 more free throws and had five blocks, which helped them overcome that lack of rebounding.
With six minutes to go in the second half, redshirt sophomore Jaaron Simmons hit a jumper to give Ohio a 53-51 lead. Following a pair of Simmons free throws, redshirt junior Kenny Kaminski hit a three and redshirt senior Treg Setty had an and one to boost Ohio’s lead to 61-51. The Tigers would not go away, though. Three straight steals led to seven points and a six-point game, but the Bobcats hit four consecutive free throws to close the game and hold on to a five-point win.
Simmons paced Ohio with 17 points, eight assists and six rebounds. Setty chipped in 13 points and 9 rebounds, and Campbell had another double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds. The Bobcats put in another strong effort from the foul line, going 27-38. Ohio still needs to improve at taking care of the ball, as it coughed it up 15 times Thursday.
The win moves Ohio’s record to 7-3 on the season. Ohio’s home-stand continues on Monday, as the team will welcome 2-9 Arkansas-Pine Bluff to the Convocation Center.
