Richardson Leads the Lady Spartans over River Valley
< < Back to richardson-leads-the-lady-spartans-over-river-valleyComing into tonight’s game, Alexander had given up two straight losses against two top teams. The Lady Spartans (12-5, 7-2) bounced back in a huge win over the River Valley Lady Raiders (7-7, 3-4), dominating and winning by a score of 56-20.
The intense rhythm of game she plays makes it hard to believe Rachel Richardson is still only a freshman. Another night where she took control of the Lady Spartans offense, going for 20 points, five assists and two steals. She ended the first quarter by nailing a buzzer-beater three to put her team up 13-2.
An offense led by Richardson was able to share the ball all night. Seven different players put points on the board and eleven different players got to get some playing time.
With this performance following up a game where she led her team with 26 points, Richardson continues to prove herself as a force to be reckoned with, for now and the next three years of playing with the Lady Spartans.
Another Lady Spartan Kendall Meeks fought viciously off the rebound and on defense, getting five rebounds and taking the ball away twice from the Lady Raiders.
River Valley struggled on offense throughout the entire game. The Lady Raiders went into half time with all seven points coming from free throws. They didn’t make a field goal until the 6:04 mark in the third quarter.
For both teams one of the major themes of the night was turnovers. Alexander turned the ball over thirteen times, while River Valley gave away possessions a total of twenty-one times throughout the course of the game.
The win puts Alexander just a half game back of both Nelsonville-York and Vinton County in the TVC-Ohio standings.
The win should have Alexander feeling good heading into its big game next Thursday, Jan. 28th against Nelsonville-York, an opportunity to come out with a share of the TVC-Ohio title. Meanwhile, the Lady Raiders will host Athens on Jan. 25
