Trimble Survives South Gallia

A couple of missed shots by the Tomcats (13-2) in the fourth quarter allowed South Gallia (15-5) to push for a comeback against the Trimble. However, due to turnovers, a problem throughout the entire game, Trimble topped South Gallia 62-61.
The Tomcats’ troubles started from the line, with Justice Jenkins shooting 2 for 6 from the line. They also failed to execute the game plan they practice throughout the week.
“During the week we worked on different situations, but we really didn’t do the things that we should have done,” head coach Howie Caldwell explained. “If we would have made the foul shots at the end, though, you know, it wouldn’t have been a one or two point game.”
Both teams played a fast-paced game, which caused problems. South Gallia struggled to keep up down the stretch and began to turn the ball over. The Rebels finished with 10 turnovers.
“We try to make the other team adjust to us instead of us adjusting to them,” Caldwell said. “They know that we’re going to try and press, they know that we’re going to try and get the ball up and down the court, and they know that we’re going to use Bryce. So we have them adjust to us.”
Jenkins, Bryce Guthrie and Tyler Sayre finished with 45 of the Tomcats’ 62 points. Guthrie finished with a double-double, contributing 20 points and 11 rebounds. Jenkins notched 12 points and Sayre added 13 points.
Trimble hosts the Belpre Golden Eagles (11-10) on Feb. 16 in Glouster. South Gallia plays Wahama at home as well on Feb. 17.
