Soccer: Ohio blanks Bowling Green to stay atop East
< < Back to soccer-ohio-blanks-bowling-green-stay-atop-eastThe Bobcats came to Chessa Field today looking for a win after their heartbreaking double-overtime loss to Miami. They did just that with a commanding 2-0 win over the Falcons.
Starting in goal today was Freshman Nicole Amari in place for the injured Mattie Liston. After a rough collision on Friday, Mattie was unable to play this afternoon. Amari shut out the Falcons saving all five of their shots on goal.
The Bobcats showcased a top-notch performance on defense, as well as offense recording 15 shots, six of them on goal. They were able to find the net on two of those shots.
In the 37th minute of the game, Toye Famodu and Cat Rogers assisted Veronica Rock for the first goal of the game. The Bobcats went on to hold their 1-0 lead into the half.
The Falcons started off strong in the second half with an explosive offensive attack, but the Bobcats quickly re-established control.
With 27 minutes remaining, Toye Famodu scored a goal of her own taking Ohio to a 2-0 lead. Famodu’s goal was the last of shots on goal, and the rest of the game proved to be a battle at midfield. The Bobcats ended the game with 15 shots over the Falcons’ 9.
The Bobcats will host Buffalo next Friday at Chessa field for the third consecutive and last MAC battle at home.
