Cops: Suspect Fatally Shot by Police was Holding Pellet Gun
< < Back toFAIRBORN, Ohio (AP) – Police in southwest Ohio say a robbery suspect fatally shot by police when he pointed a gun at officers was later found to be holding a pellet gun that resembled a handgun.
Fairborn police say 22-year-old Rouven Loch pointed the pellet gun Monday night after officers trying to arrest him fired tear gas to force him from a house. Police fired a single shot that struck Loch in the torso. He died later at a hospital.
Police say Loch was suspected in several area robberies.
Authorities say they reached Loch by phone trying to get him to surrender. They say he told them he was armed with a handgun and three loaded magazines and was not going back to prison.
The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation is investigating the shooting.
