Snow Emergency Lifted In Athens But Bitterly Cold Temps In The Forecast
< < Back to snow-emergency-lifted-athens-bitterly-cold-temps-forecastThe Athens County Sheriff’s Office has lifted the level one snow emergency for the county after a winter storm that dropped nearly 2 feet of snow on the eastern half of the country.
The storm led to at least nine deaths nationwide.
Slick roads have caused traffic deaths in Michigan, Kentucky, Indiana and Illinois.
In Athens County, the Ohio State Highway Patrol says there were no reported accidents during the morning commute Friday.
The snowstorm worked its way east from the Midwest and merged with low pressure off the mid-Atlantic coast, forming a nor'easter.
It temporarily shut down major highways in New York and Pennsylvania and forced airlines to cancel thousands of flights.
Temperatures are expected to warm up over the weekend, with highs in the 40’s but will then plunge into the teens and single digits starting Sunday. Lows are expected to dip below zero during the start of the work week
