< < Back to dixon-named-oac-player-weekMarietta senior guard Tori Dixon was named the Ohio Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week Monday afternoon.
“It’s a great honor,” Dixon said. “I believe it has everything to do with the team and coaching staff always giving me the green light and trusting that I have enough confidence to put shots in."
Dixon, Marietta’s all-time leader in 3-point shooting, led the Pioneers to victories over Hiram and Ohio Northern. Because of the holiday break, the award covers game played from Dec. 23 to Jan. 5.
She led the Pioneers with a game-high 24 points against Hiram, as she went 9-for-14 from the field, including six 3-pointers.
This marks the first time this season that Dixon has earned the honor. The early education major, is averaging 13.3 points and 1.8 rebounds per game. Dixon is shooting 40 percent from behind the arc this season.
“It means a lot to me, but I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for the support from my team, coaches and family,” Dixon said. “They are always pushing me to become better and even when I’m not shooting well they have faith that I will always make the next shot.”
Dixon and the Pioneers take the court again on Saturday as they take on Baldwin Wallace. Tipoff is set for 3 p.m. in Berea, Ohio.
