This week, the Lady Eagles did not have a game and hold their record at 8-0. The boys, however, were defeated in two games this week.

Hoping to improve their record, the boys came into this week at 0-6. The Eagles first faced Federal Hocking on Friday, Jan. 3, and lost 64-51.

They were 20-for-63 in field goals and 8-for-10 in free throws, with their opponent shooting 20-for-47 and 21-for-28. Leading the way for the Eagles was Jett Facemyer with 18 points, followed by Christian Speelman with 13 and Andrew Stobart scoring 5.

After the first three quarters, the score was tied at 39. Though the game was close throughout the first half and into the third, the Eagles could not hold on in the fourth and were ultimately outscored by 13 points. Eastern head coach Jeremy Hill believes they have been losing because of the lack of consistent play in one quarter of the game.

“We are 0-9 right now, but six of those losses we have outscored or tied opponents in three quarters and had a one quarter let down,” said Hill. “As soon as we put together four quarters, we are going to win.”

Next, the Eagles faced Division II Gallia Academy High School on Saturday, Jan. 4. The final score concluded in an 81-48 Eagle loss.

Jett Facemyer continued to lead the team this week in scoring with 13 points, followed by Chase Cook with 8 and Christian Speelman with 6. Hill believes the loss was simply because of their shots not going in. Gallia shot the ball 50% from the field and Eastern shot 25%. The Eagles shot 67 and made 16 overall and the Blue Devils shot 48 and made 31 overall.

“I think we were a little tired from the night before. It was just a night of good shooting for Gallia and poor shooting for us,” said Hill.

The Eagles will travel to Meigs on Jan. 7, and Trimble on Friday, Jan. 10, at home. Meigs is another Division II team that will challenge the Eagles. Coach Hill looks forward to the team improving and competing all four quarters to put together a win.
