Vinton County Week In Review: Jan. 5-11

GIRLS
The Lady Vikings faced off with the Lady Marauders at home on Thursday, Jan. 9, and came out victorious with a final score of 63-34.
The Vikings started off the first quarter strong, leading by a margin of 15 points going into the second quarter by a score of 26-11.
By the end of the third quarter, the Vinton County girls had established their dominance, leading by 24 points.
The team was carried to success with Megan Dixon scoring 17 points in the game. Behind her, Michaela Puckett had 15 points and Jalen Hale had a double-double, scoring 13 points and 11 rebounds.
This clean sweep put the girls at a 4-1 record in the TVC, with their only loss coming from the Bulldogs, whom they face on Jan. 16.
On Saturday, Jan. 11, Mark Dixon’s girls faced off with Zane Trace in another effortless win of 71-54.
“Were just trying to do the best we can and letting the younger girls get more play time,” said Dixon. “Our biggest challenge was losing to Fairfield in our tournament last season and winning it this season was incredible. We’re right where we need to be.”
The girls have risen to 9-4 this season.
BOYS
Vinton County’s game against Logan on Tuesday, Jan. 7, was postponed until further notice.
On Friday, Jan. 10, the Vikings faced the Golden Rockets of Wellston in a league game and came away with a victory of 68-41.
The boys progressed their status in the TVC to 2-1, placing them right behind Meigs and first-place Athens.
On Saturday, Jan. 11, the Vikings put forth a hard-fought battle with strong defense and fast paced offense, but in the end could not take down Zane Trace and fell to the Pioneers with a close score of 55-53. This loss put Vinton County at a 4-5 record.
The boys face off with River Valley on Tuesday, Jan. 14, at home.
