Escapee Indicted By Hocking County Grand Jury

The inmate that escaped from a Hocking County prison was indicted on Friday.
The indictment by a Hocking County grand jury charged John D. Modie, with one count of escape, according to a press release by the Hocking County Prosecutor’s Office.
“No additional charges were needed, as Modie simply hid from authorities until his apprehension by local law enforcement,” Assistant Prosecutor Bill Archer stated in the release.
Modie led law enforcement on a day-long manhunt after being reported missing from a head count at the Hocking Unit of the Southeastern Correctional Complex in Nelsonville.
He was arrested late March 28 without incident at an abandoned Nelsonville gas station by a joint task force, Jarrod Robinson, spokesperson for the Hocking Unit of the Southeastern Ohio Correctional Complex, said after the arrest.
Since being recaptured, Modie has been moved to the Southern Ohio Correctional Facility in Lucasville.
The inmate has been serving an 18-year conviction out of Cuyahoga County for murder, burglary and a separate charge of escape.
