Can Ohio Delegation Help Cleveland Rock for Kasich?
< < Back to can-ohio-delegation-help-cleveland-rock-for-kasichCINCINNATI (AP) — Ohio Republican delegates still think Cleveland can rock for their hosting state governor, who’s counting on emerging in a contested national convention to overtake the front-runners for the presidential nomination this July.
John Kasich has what he’s called a “rock solid” base of support among the 66 delegates. It’s largely a group of political veterans who in some cases have ties to the former congressman that go back decades.
Kasich supporters say he can win the nomination as delegates back away from outspoken businessman Donald Trump and maverick Texas Sen. Ted Cruz. They point to his experience and strength in polling against likely Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton.
But there are a lot of obstacles and as well as unknowns: The last contested GOP convention was 40 years ago.
