Rainfall Watched Carefully In Flood-Stricken W. Va.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) – Emergency management officials are keeping a close eye on rainfall amounts in flood-stricken West Virginia on Independence Day.
Timothy Rock, a spokesman for West Virginia Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management, said the heaviest rain is expected to fall in the state on Monday afternoon.
The National Weather Service also says the heaviest rains are expected Monday afternoon into Monday night. The weather service says rainfall amounts will average between 2 and 3 inches, with locally heavier amounts possible.
The weather service posted a flash flood watch from early Monday through early Tuesday for more than half of the state’s 55 counties. The watch area includes the Eastern Panhandle, and central and northern West Virginia.
Five American Red Cross shelters remain open in West Virginia following last month’s flooding.
