< < Back to melissa-thompson-leads-ohio-day-two-spire-invitationalThe Ohio Bobcats track and field team put the finishing touches on their weekend stint in Geneva, Ohio. The Bobcats were fueled with a record-breaking performance by Chanda Cuckler Friday in the jumping department. Saturday, another veteran fueled the ‘Cats as Junior Melissa Thompson led the way, coming up just shy of a top-10 finish.
Thompson placed 13th in the women’s one mile run, finishing five seconds behind her personal best at 4:53.87. Thompson built on her successful season, and qualified for the upcoming Mid-American Conference Indoor Championships.
The 4x400m relay team finished 20th overall with a time of 4:02.61, which was just two seconds more than their best time of the season. The Bobcats came in third in their heat.
The relay team was made up of two freshmen in Amanda Sacha and Tajah Smith, supported by more experienced runners in Delaney Bolger and Haley Stegemiller. Bolger and Stegemiller both hail from Lebanon, Ohio.
In the field competition, it was again another average day for the Bobcats’ athletes. Junior Janiece Rose finished 15th with a throw of 13.01m, while Olivia Mayfield finished 19th in the long jump with a mark of 5.30m. The Bobcats athletes failed to make the top-10 of an event, except for Cuckler’s top-three finish.
The Bobcats will conclude the 2013-2014 indoor season Feb. 21 at the OSU Open in Columbus before heading to MAC Championships.
