Buckeyes Roll Over Spartans to Stay Undefeated
< < Back to buckeyes-roll-over-spartans-stay-undefeatedAfter losing two straight games, the Alexander Spartans were looking to snag a win against undefeated Nelsonville-York. Unfortunately, this game just wasn’t in the cards for the Spartans. The Buckeyes cruised to victory over the Spartans, 53-0.
The Buckeyes jumped out to an 8-0 lead early in the first with a Nathan Dean 30-yard touchdown pass to Daniel Kline. Dean was 9-12 on the night for 173 yards. Later in the first, Player of the Year candidate Dustin Young had a short five-yard touchdown run to put the Buckeyes up 14-0. Young ran all over the Spartans defense, scoring three touchdowns in the first half. Young had 19 carries on the night for a total of 174 yards and one reception for 13 yards. Also for the Buckeyes, Tackle Jacob Coon scooped up a Spartan fumble for a nice 30-yard return.
The Buckeyes finished with a total of 407 yards compared to the Spartans 164 yards. Despite Quarterback Trey Bennett’s injury, he suited up to lead the Spartan offense on his Senior Night. Bennett was 5-15 for a total of 47 yards. He also had eight carries for 14 yards.
Hoping to end their season with a win, the Spartans go on the road next week to take on Meigs. Nelsonville-York faces their biggest test of the year next week against the Athens Bulldogs. Both teams are undefeated and the winner of this game will be crowned TVC-Ohio Champions. Gridiron Glory will be live from Athens next Friday night.
