Commission, Architect to Pay Contractor $2M in Settlement

A judge approved the settlement Tuesday after a referee ruled in favor of TransAmerica Building Co. The company claimed the commission caused delays and more work beyond the scope of its contract.
The Columbus Dispatch reports the referee ruled TransAmerica was owed the money because the state agency dragged out the $44 million construction project due to “politics and budgeting problems.”
The company filed a lawsuit against the commission seeking $3.8 million in damages after the agency withheld payments.
The referee ruled against a countersuit by the state.
