Maysville Starts Out Undefeated Against Crooksville
< < Back to maysville-starts-out-undefeated-against-crooksvilleThe Crooksville Ceramics hoped to redeem themselves after a 41-15 blowout against the Maysville Panthers in their season opener. History did repeat itself, however it was by a narrow margin. Panthers used home field advantage to overtake the Ceramics 35-23 in their fourth consecutive season opener.
Despite the Panthers primarily being a young team, they were consistent on offense. Out of the three passes completed, all three were completed for touchdowns. Maysville’s defense started the game out strong, but it struggled to make tackles later in the game. Along with the three touchdowns, quarterback Connor Sidwell ended his first game as a starter with 153 total yards.
Crooksville undoubtedly put up a fight the entire game. The Ceramics initially had the momentum on their side early in the game and never quit fighting once the momentum shifted to Maysville’s favor. Maysville pulled ahead and gained a strong lead, 28-9 in the 3rd quarter. Crooksville didn’t allow the deficit to steal their energy as Brody Williams quickly followed up with a 74-yard touchdown run.
Although Crooksville never backed down, it was not enough to come out on top. Maysville’s head coach Craig Clark hopes to gain some confidence through this win and continue to build on that the rest of the season.
“With a young group, our goal is to get better each and every week and I thought we did that. We’ve gotten a lot better since the scrimmages,” Clark said.
Although the season is early, there was strong talent shown from both teams tonight. Next week, Maysville will go on the road to take on New Lexington. Crooksville will be able to defend its home turf when it plays Mount Gilead.
