West Virginia Senate OKs Standards For Vehicle Retrofits
< < Back to west-virginia-senate-oks-standards-vehicle-retrofitsThe West Virginia Senate has approved a bill setting regulations and standards for vehicles being altered to run on alternative fuels.
The bill states vehicles may only be altered with an Environmental Protection Agency-certified conversion kit for diesel or gas fuel conversions.
The bill also states that no diesel engine modifications for dual fuel retrofit can change the original engine in any way, including drilling into the manifold.
Sen. Bob Plymale said the Senate passed a similar bill last year that died in the House. He said this bill addresses important safety issues related to having these modified vehicles on the highway.
The bill will advance to the House for action.
Republican Senators Mike Hall, Mitch Carmichael, Clark Barnes and Dave Sypolt voted against to the bill.
