Two Bobcats Named MAC East Players of the Week
< < Back to two-bobcats-named-mac-east-players-of-the-weekAfter a close game with the No. 15 ranked Tennessee which ended with an Ohio loss of 28-19, linebacker Quentin Poling and kicker Louie Zervos were each named Mid-American Conference East Division Players of the Week.
Poling led an Ohio defense that held Tennessee to its worst rushing game of the season and managed to keep the Volunteers from having a 100-yd rusher for the first time this season. The junior linebacker finished the game with 14 tackles, 9 of which were solo stops. Both of those are stats are season highs. Poling also had 1.5 tackles for loss and forced fumble.
Zervos scored all of Ohio’s points in the first half. Zervos was Ohio’s top scorer after going 4-4 on field goal attempts just in the first half, which managed to help the Bobcats keep up with Volunteers. The redshirt freshman kicker also hit his only extra point attempt. Zervos is now 13-14 on field goal attempts in his first season. He is ranked first in the NCAA in field goals per game (4.33) and is ranked third in total scoring.
Ohio managed to keep up with Tennessee until the the fourth quarter when the Volunteers scored a touchdown that put them up 28-19. Ohio is now 0-27 against opponents ranked in the Associated Press Top 25 and 1-2 this season. The Bobcats will host Gardner-Webb on Saturday at Peden Stadium at 2:00 p.m. in their next game.
