Smith will be honored at both the boys and girls basketball state tournaments at the Schottenstein Center in Columbus after completing her 17-year professional and international basketball career last summer. The Logan native took the Chieftains to the OHSAA state championship game as a senior in 1992 and was awarded national player-of-the-year honors that season.
Following her career at Logan, Smith went on to Ohio State where she was a two-time first team All-American and helped the Buckeyes to the NCAA title game in her freshman season.
After having her number retired at Ohio State, Smith played 17 years of professional and international basketball where she finished as the all-time leading scorer in women’s professional basketball. In addition to her professional career, Smith competed on three U.S. Olympic Gold Medal winning teams throughout her career.
Although her playing career has concluded, Smith will return to the WNBA as an assistant coach for the New York Liberty next season.
