Report Offers Vehicle Pursuit Policies For Law Enforcement

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) – An advisory group’s report has recommended vehicle pursuit policies for law enforcement in Ohio.

The group appointed by Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine examined law various enforcement pursuit policies used in Ohio to help identify best practices.

The recently released report recommends policies on initiating, continuing and discontinuing vehicle pursuits aimed at ensuring the safety of law enforcement and the public. The group also recommends that continued professional training for all peace officers and state troopers in Ohio include vehicle pursuit best practices and safe driving techniques.

Data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration show more than 350 people, including one Ohio peace officer and 147 bystanders, were killed in law enforcement pursuits in Ohio between 1982 and 2014.
