Athens Police Department Searching For Suspect In Counterfeit Money Case

The Athens Police Department is looking for a man in connection with counterfeit money used at a bar.
The crime is listed in the Crimes of the Month for April by Athens County Crime Solvers Anonymous.
During the “late evening hours” of March 14 and into March 15, a man allegedly passed five counterfeit $20 bills to employees at The Pigskin Sports Bar and Grill.
The man is described as a black male who is 6’5” with a thin build.
Lt. Jeff McCall of the Criminal Investigations Unit for the Athens police said employees reported the crime and took a picture of the man holding up $20 bills. It was not known whether the bills in the photo were counterfeit, McCall said.
No direction of travel was given after he left The Pigskin and no other information was given in the crime solvers notice. Investigators did not release information pertaining to any leads or suspects.
The man could face a charge of criminal simulation for using counterfeit bills.
Crime Solvers Anonymous is offering a $2,000 cash reward for information on the above crimes if the information leads to the arrest and/or indictment of the person or persons responsible, according to the news release.
