Ohio AG Rejects Petition For Bottle-Deposit Issue
< < Back to ohio-ag-rejects-petition-bottle-deposit-issueOhio's attorney general has rejected the petition of a proposal that aims to create a refundable deposit on glass, plastic and other containers.
Attorney General Mike DeWine said Thursday that supporters of the "Bottle Bill for Ohio" did not submit the minimum requirement of 1,000 valid signatures to continue their effort. He also said the petition lacked a signed circulator statement required by law.
DeWine said in a statement that because of those flaws, he was unable to decide if their summary was a fair and accurate description of the proposal.
The group says in its summary that the proposed law would create a 5- to 10-cent refundable deposit on containers, including those that carry milk, mayonnaise, beer and other products. It also would require corporations to recycle such containers.
