Trimble Comes Back From Belpre

Tyler Slacks scored 24 of his 30 points in the second half as Trimble was able to defeat Belpre 64-57 in its first game of the season.
Slack was the only player to record a double-double as he grabbed 10 rebounds and fittingly sank the final three free throws to bury the Golden Eagles.
Belpre opened the game in a full court press that the Tomcats were easily able to maneuver through and jumped out to a commanding 15- 7 lead. Helping the Tomcat cause was the fact that Belpre superstar Deijon Bedgood was held scoreless until the 5:19 mark in the second quarter and held to just nine points overall on the night.
Switching between a full court press and frustrating 2-3 zone, Belpre was able to crawl its way back into the game and head into halftime with a 28-25 lead. The Eagles were led offensively by Freshman guard Logan Adams who went into the break a perfect three-for-three behind the three-point arc.
The second half showed opened with back and forth play that only proved why both of these teams are legitimate contenders in the TVC-Hocking. Trimble made its first three shots and began to dictate the game on the defensive side of the ball.
The back and forth play came down to the final minutes where, after a barrage of Belpre turnovers, the Tomcats were able to capitalize on consecutive fast-break layups and the aforementioned Slack was able to bury the Eagles on the free throw line.
Trimble teams of the past have always had go to scorers in which they could rely on, Slack believes this year is different, “Its going to be tough because we could just give the ball to Justice (Jenkins) and he’d take it to the hole,” Slack said. “Now we have to work as a team… run our plays hard and execute on defense.”
The Trimble Tomcats will hope to keep a zero in the loss column after they travel to Eastern on Dec. 9. Belpre will look to bounce back as it hosts the White Falcons of Wahama also in Dec. 9.
