Absentee Voting For May Primary Election Started On Tuesday

Early voting for the May 6 primary election started on Tuesday. According to the Athens County Board of Elections more than 60 residents have requested an absentee ballot. Among them, 10 came into the office at 15 South Shafer Street, and the others mailed their request for a ballot.
In the primary elections State Rep. Debbie Phillips faces Republicans Yolan G. Dennis and Daniel W. Lantz for her seat in the Ohio House while Democrat Kathy Hecht looks to defeat Republican incumbent Jill A. Thompson for County Auditor.
Democrats William R. Biddelstone, Todd L. Grace and Pat Lang will face off for Common Pleas Court Judge.
Republican Robert W. Stewart will run unopposed for Juvenile Court Judge as well as Democrat Lenny Eliason faces no opponents for County Commissioner.
Lastly, Republican George P. McCarthy will face Democrat Herman A. Carson in the race for Athens County Judge.
The Athens County Board of Elections office will have extended voting hours until May 6. It will be open an hour longer from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays from April 1 through May 2.
On Monday, April 7, it will stay open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. and on Monday, April 14, it offers a chance to vote from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.. On Saturday, May 3rd, the office will open from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m..
Residents who mail their absentee ballot requests can do that at the latest with a postmark from May 5.
