The Numbers Behind Christian’s Move
< < Back to numbers-behind-christians-moveJim Christian completed his move from Ohio to Boston College Thursday after two seasons with the Bobcats.
Now speculation begins as to who Ohio Athletic Director Jim Schaus will hire to fill Christian’s spot. Schaus has appointed four men’s basketball coaches in his time at Wichita State and Ohio.
Schaus hired Christian and John Groce at Ohio as well as Mark Turgeon and Gregg Marshall at Wichita State.
Ohio’s head coaches have had varying levels of success in their first seasons with the Bobcats. Christian had more wins in his first year at Ohio than any other Bobcats head coach did in their first years.
Now, Christian goes to Boston College. The Eagles finished 8-24 overall and 4-14 in Atlantic Coast Conference. Their dismal record placed them near the basement of the ACC at second to last.
Obviously, Christian’s success at Boston College is to be determined. The ACC is one of college basketball’s premier conferences and presents a vibrant challenge for the Eagles’ new headman.
Ohio’s past three coaches all left to new head coaching positions. Groce moved on to Illionis after he took Ohio to the Sweet 16. Tim O’Shea moved to Bryant University to handle the Bulldogs’ transition to NCAA Division I. Larry Hunter moved on to Western Carolina.
Schaus said at a press conference Thursday evening that Ohio will begin a national search for a replacement.
Boston College will announce Christian as its new head coach Tuesday, April 8.
