Trimble Stumbles After Strong Start

It was a week to forget for both Tomcat teams as they combined for a 1-4 record in five games this week.
After beginning the season with a four game winning streak, Trimble dropped its first game of the season with a 50-31 loss to the Alexander Spartans. The 31 points scored by Trimble was the lowest it has posted on the entire year and is something it will need to fix in the future if the Tomcats want to get back to winning.
That would not be Trimble’s only loss of the week however, as they would also fall to the Nelsonville-York Buckeyes 52-46 on the road, their first loss to the Buckeyes in three years. Nelsonville-York came into the game with just a 2-3 record on the season, but evened out with the upset.
Both of these losses this week came against opponents who were under .500 coming into the game. The Tomcats need to take care of business in these trap games if they want to continue to have a successful season like they started off.
With these two losses to TVC-Ohio teams, the Tomcats fall to 4-2 on the season, but still remain in first place of the TVC-Hocking with a perfect 4-0 record.
Upcoming games for Trimble will be very important contests as they will face Crooksville on the road December 30th and will host a 3-1 Waterford team at home on January 6th.
The Trimble Lady Tomcats played three games and finished 1-2 and ultimately brought their record to a slow 2-6 start.
The week started off bright however, as the Lady Tomcats began with a win on the road against South Gallia on Tuesday with a score of 30-19.
Offense again continued to be a problem for the Lady Tomcats, only scoring 30 points all game. They were able to grind out the win with tough defense however, by only giving up 19 points the entire game, making that the lowest amount of points they’ve allowed all season. This was a big win for the Lady Tomcats as they were able to break a losing streak.
Up next for the Lady Tomcats was a home game against the Federal Hocking Lady Lancers. An in-conference game with both teams under .500 seemed like it could’ve been anyone’s game to win on paper but the Lady Lancers were able to take care of business defeating Trimble 43-28.
The Lady Tomcats took on the Nelsonville-York Lady Buckeyes Friday night and fell 49-18 as their offensive woes continued. They were 1-17 shooting from the field at one point in the contest, causing them to only have eight points heading into the fourth quarter.
Offense is something the Lady Tomcats continue to struggle with this entire season. The 30-point mark is where the Lady Tomcats seem to be hovering around as they have only surpassed that number in two games this season.
Finding a replacement for their offensive star of last year in Nikki Kish has been a difficult task so far but there is a bright spot in point guard Sydney Hardy as she seems to be the main offensive threat, but she can’t do it alone.
To turn this season around and get back to .500, some of the role players for the Lady Tomcats need to step up offensively and put some points up on the board to start winning games.
Next week for the Lady Tomcats is a game at home vs. St. Joe and a road game at Crooksville, two very important games to turn around an already upsetting season.
