Meigs Topple Spartans at Alexander
< < Back to meigs-topple-spartans-at-alexanderMeigs rolled into The Alley and defeated Alexander 61-50. The Spartans were outplayed by the Marauders relentless 3-2 defense and ability score both behind the line and in the paint. The defense caused Alexander from being able to score down low near the basket which is most familiar to the Spartans.
The Spartans seemed to get frustrated with themselves as they moved the ball effectively but were not able to find open shots. This forced them to drive to the basket to find themselves either met by Marauders defenders or a kick out a three with a hand in their face.
In the fourth quarter the Spartans were able to make a comeback cutting the lead to only seven. This comeback was led by Ryan Davidson who got hot in the fourth but it was simply not enough. It was not a good ending for Davidson who found himself with five fouls with just 45 seconds left in the game.
A big key for the Meigs tonight was limiting the big threat of Chace Harris to only four points. This left the sharp shooter Ryan Davidson who hit five shots behind the line and finished with a team high 17 points to be the man filling in Harris’ role.
Meigs came out in the first half taking control of the game going into the locker room leading 36-13. They did not let up the rest of the game, not allowing the Spartans to take the lead throughout the rest of the game.
Meigs had so much success against a tough Alexander team was foul shots down late in the game. They made the most out of their trips to the line, going 11-13 foul shots in the second half. For Meigs, Luke Musser lead the charge with 15 points followed by Christian Mattox who scored 12 points.
Meigs (8-6) looks to stay up to its winning ways against Athens on Tuesday night. Alexander (8-8) travels to River Valley in hope to get back in the win column.
