Athens Teen Returns Home Safely After Reportedly Running Away

A 16-year-old Athens juvenile believed to have run away from home returned safely Monday morning.
Jayden Smith returned home on his own accord Monday morning after having not been seen since around 5 p.m. Saturday night. At around 7:45 p.m. that night, he contacted his mother saying that he was going fishing but no one heard from him since that call.
A missing person alert was disseminated to the media Monday morning and reports were generated online. On The Messenger's Facebook page, the story was shared by more than 60 people and had more than 3,500 views.
Lt. Jeff McCall, of the Athens Police Department, confirmed a few hours later that Smith had returned home on his own and was safe.
No further information was released and the matter was still under investigation by police as of early Monday afternoon.
The Athens Police Department is asking the public for help in locating a 16-year-old Athens male believed to have run away from home.
Jayden Smith was last seen on Saturday at around 5 p.m. He contacted his mother at 7:45 p.m. that night stating that he was going fishing and has not been heard from since.
Smith is described as a white male, standing 5-11, weighing 140 pounds with curly, brown hair and brown eyes. A last-known clothing description was not available.
