The West Virginia Board of Education has approved a new policy for accrediting the state's public schools. The policy establishes a straightforward A-to-F grading system just like the one parents are accustomed to seeing on their kids' report cards.
The state Department of Education says many of the new system increases the focus on student and school performance.
Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin asked for the change in his 2014 State of the State address. He said Thursday that the new system communicates information about performance in a language parents and the community can understand.
