Ohio Falls in First Match vs. Wright State
< < Back to ohio-falls-in-first-match-vs-wright-stateOhio (7-6) dropped their first game of the weekend to the Wright State Raiders 6-1 on Thursday.
Southpaw pitcher Gerry Salisbury got the start for Ohio and pitched well. Salisbury pitched six innings, allowing two runs while fanning seven batters.
The Raiders scratched across two runs early in the second inning.
The Bobcats cut Wright State’s lead in half in the sixth inning.
Spencer Ibarra started the inning with a single and advanced to second on a sac bunt from shortstop Tyler Finkler. Cleanup hitter Michael Klein came to the plate and smacked a two-out double to left-center for Ohio’s only run.
Wright State retaliated with four runs in the eight inning to put away Ohio and seal the Raiders victory.
Despite Ohio matching Wright State with eight hits in the game, the Bobcats could not capitalize on lead-off singles for timely hitting, an issue Ohio had last season and continues to struggle with this year.
Ohio returns to the diamond to try to even the series tomorrow afternoon. Butch Baird, defending Mid-American Conference Pitcher of the Week, is expected to take the mound for the Bobcats.
The first pitch is set for 1 p.m. at Nischwitz Stadium.
