Ohio Travels to Western Michigan Following a Series Sweep
< < Back to ohio-travels-to-western-michigan-following-a-series-sweepComing off an impressive series sweep of Toledo, the Bobcats looks to maintain its momentum in Kalamazoo, Michigan, when they take on Western Michigan this weekend.
Ohio (22-6, 3-0) currently sits atop of the MAC standings. Coach Jodi Hermanek took away a huge revelation about her team following last weekend’s emotionally, mentally and physically draining series.
“We have the will to win and know how to win. We’re not gonna back down,” said Hermanek. “I told them (her players) ‘I’d really like it if you guys had my back and would let me raise my child and keep my blood pressure down by winning early, but at the end of the day, I’ll take it.’”
Meanwhile, Ohio is currently riding a nine-game winning streak, thanks to their star performers. Six of those victories have been earned with senior pitcher Savannah Jo Dorsey on the mound while the other three were with junior Danielle Stiene.
Western Michigan (12-15, 0-3) has lost five of their last six. Kelsea Chichocki is the team’s biggest offensive weapon. She bats .518 with 33 RBIs. The Broncos only have 90 runs on the year. Chichocki has driven in over a third of them, which proves she may be hard to stop.
“They obviously have some other contributors too, our pitching will be the key to stepping up to some of those key players,” said Hermanek.
Long bus rides typically aren’t fun, especially ones that last for six hours or more. But, this doesn’t stop the Bobcats from partaking in routines that will relax them before they step onto the field.
“The bus has WiFi so there is a lot of studying that goes on. There’s also a lot of goofy comradery,” said Hermanek. “We eat, bud. We eat. We have food on the bus, good nutritional stuff. Our regulars are Panera, which we all love.”
Ohio hopes food and this lengthy ride will fuel them as they try to sustain their winning ways.
The games are today at 3 p.m. and tomorrow at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
