McArthur Ballot To Feature Police, Streetlight Levies

McArthur voters will have two local levies to decide upon in this coming November's general election.
Village council members approved placing the levies on the ballot at their regular meeting in June.
The levies will replace previously existing property taxes for the police department and village expenses. The McArthur Police levy is a 2.5 mill tax which would bring in nearly $51,000 annually, according to Vinton County Auditor Cindy Owings. If approved, the owner of a $50,000 home would pay $43.75 per year for the police levy.
The other levy, a 1.5 mill tax, will assist in maintaining the village's streetlights. The levy would bring the village around $30,500 annually and the owner of a $50,000 home would pay $26.25 per year.
