As Tri-Valley played host to its first ever home playoff game, the Scotties manhandled the Tecumseh Arrows en route to a 48-30 victory Friday night in Dresden.

It looked like it was going to be a close game for the Scotties in the first half, but as all good teams do, Tri-Valley made halftime adjustments and ran all over the Arrows in the second half.

The Tecumseh Arrows started the game with a nine-minute drive that led to seven points for the Arrows and an early lead. But using only two minutes of the clock, Tri-Valley marched right back down the field to tie the game at seven.

Tecumseh ran a jet sweep or a fullback dive on just about every play, but the Scotties couldn’t find a way to stop the heavy rushing attack.  The Arrows marched right back down the field with a nine play, 67-yard drive that led to another touchdown for Tecumseh, but a missed extra point gave them the 13-7 lead.

Tri-Valley regained possession but were forced to punt out of their own end zone. Tecumseh was able to get a hand on the ball and block the punt so they regained possession on the Tri-Valley nine-yard line. But the Scotties were able to tighten up on defense and hold the Arrows’ offense to a field goal putting Tecumseh ahead 16-7.

As expected, the Scotties marched right back down the field as Nathan Strock ran in his only rushing touchdown of the night to bring Tri-Valley back within two points of the lead. With less than two minutes left in the half, the Scotties got back on offense and Strock found Matt Amicone in the end zone to give Tri-Valley their first lead of the game. That was Amicone’s only reception on the night and that was the first of Strock’s two passing touchdowns on the evening.

The second half was a different change of pace. Tecumseh left their prolific rushing attack in the locker room and Tri-Valley’s Austin Jones took over the game. The Scotties completely dominated the second half as they scored often and ran away with the game. Literally.

Austin Jones finished with 308 rushing yards on 26 carries as he found the end zone four times. The highlight for him was an 80-yard touchdown run with no time left on the clock to end the third quarter and put the nail in Tecumseh’s coffin. Tri-Valley racked up 491 yards of total offense in the game and seven touchdowns.

However, the Scotties allowed 357 total yards of offense and 30 points for Tecumseh. Tri-Valley’s Head Coach Justin Buttermore was happy with the win, but upset with the way his defense played.

Buttermore said that they were able to make the necessary adjustments to stop the Arrow’s rushing attack, but he wasn’t expecting to give up 30 points and that is something that they will work on heading in to next week.

The Scotties ran away with this game and advance to round two of the playoffs where they will face New Albany.
