Fraternity Has New Home On College Street
< < Back to fraternity-has-new-home-college-streetAn Ohio University fraternity now has a home of its own.
A building at 8 N. College St. was recently purchase for $1.35 million by C.P.T. Moore Housing Corp., which is affiliated with Phi Kappa Psi.
"Our guys are very excited. It's a beautiful property," said Matt Kifle, vice president of the housing corporation.
The fraternity has been leasing the building for the past few months until arrangements could be made for purchase of the property from 8 N. College LLC.
Kifle said Phi Kappa Psi has been on campus for about six years, and was located at 20 S. College St. in what had been the Phi Gamma Delta house. Phi Gamma Delta reclaimed its house, according to Kifle, which made it necessary for Phi Kappa Psi to find a new location.
University records indicate that the Phi Gamma Delta chapter was deactivated by its national organization in 2009 and re-started as a new colony at OU in 2013, according to Martha Compton, director of the OU Office of Community Standards and Student Responsibility.
The Phi Gamma Delta website indicates the 20 S. College St. building was reoccupied this past spring.
